Consider Student Housing – Students, the best place to start is with your campus housing department. Campus housing exists to help students find reliable housing on and off campus easily. They may even be able to help you find a roommate to help with the cost of rent!
Check Hotels – There are plenty of hotels in the area that will let you rent out a room or suite for a couple of months at a reduced rate.
Ask your HR Department – Your employer may be able to help you find housing or recommend a service who can help.
Reach out to your network – Ask your friends, family, colleagues, classmates, etc. as they may know someone who is looking for a roommate for the summer or needs a housesitter.
Try a sublet – If need housing for less than 2 months, you might want to look into a sublet. You may even be able to live in student housing if you aren’t a student by getting a sublet for the summer or winter.
Unfortunately, here at Urban Igloo, most of our properties don’t offer short-term housing, but here’s a list of some other good local resources where you may have luck.
airbnb – Most of the properties on this site offer a range from a nightly rental to a monthly rental, although you can find a few places to rent over a month. See their guidelines to being a happy guest in someone’s home.
SeamlessTransition – SeamlessTransition will find viable short-term options for you, and will help guide you through your schooling, transportation and space needs.
Washington Intern Student Housing – if you’re interning in DC, check this site out. They offer housing close to federal buildings, which helps keep the commute time short if you are working for the government.
The links above are just a starting point for your short-term housing search. Keep in mind that as you start to research, you may find prices for short-term rentals can be substantially higher than longer term leases, and are less readily available. If you are able to commit to a longer term lease (such as one for 12 months), you will likely find more options at a lower price per month.
