If you're a Washington DC area renter, Urban Igloo probably sounds too good to be true. So let's explain exactly how it works.
Lots of landlords in and around DC list their apartments, townhomes, and houses with Urban Igloo. This includes everyone from large companies that own multiple buildings to individual condo owners. With its unique combination of a web-based platform and knowledgeable agents, Urban Igloo helps you search rental properties and find the one that's right for you. This service is completely free, and the rent you pay is the same as what you'd pay if you went directly to the rental's owner.
There's no hidden fee, there's no catch.
How can we offer all of this to renters for free?
Vacancies that go unfilled month after month cost landlords a lot. Landlords pay us to bring them a steady stream of highly qualified renters and help keep their properties rented -- something that can be a challenge for landlords to do on their own.
When There's a Fee for DC Renters, and Why
Some DC apartments have traditionally rented pretty quickly on their own (hey this is Washington), so some landlords are not yet paying to have Urban Igloo bring renters to them. Their properties don't appear on Urban Igloo's website, but we can show them to you if you're interested in seeing the widest selection possible. If you do choose one of these properties, you the renter would pay Urban Igloo a fee -- but it's never more than one month's rent.
So here's the bottom line. If you never want to pay a fee for our services, no problem. Stick with the vast listings on our website. If, however, you want to see the widest selection possible and you're willing to pay a fee, let your agent know and we will show you everything - both free and paid.
Whichever approach you choose, we always represent you the renter, and we focus solely on helping you find the perfect place to live ... quicker and easier than you can do on your own.
