Looking to rent an apartment, townhome, or house in Arlington VA? Here are some things to keep in mind.

The four big neighborhoods for Arlington apartments are Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon, and Ballston. Each has a metro stop on the orange line (Rosslyn is also on the blue). Most large apartment buildings lie within a few blocks of Wilson Blvd or Clarendon Blvd, which wind their way through the four neighborhoods. Especially in Courthouse, Clarendon, and Ballston, there are also a number of smaller buildings -- and lots of townhomes and houses -- that stretch south and north of the main strip.

Many of the large apartment buildings in Arlington are fairly modern -- built within the last couple decades -- while most of the houses and many of the townhomes are from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Many of the stores and restaurants in these neighborhoods share this same contrast of new and old, creating a very eclectic feel.

Rent prices for Arlington apartments vary widely. Some of the most modern, high-end buildings near the metro stops have prices comparable to expensive DC neighborhoods, with 1 BRs going for $1600 to $2300, 2 BRs for $2500 to $4000, and efficiencies for $1200 to $1600. Yet many older, less convenient apartment buildings and houses have prices that are much lower.
